September is a memorable day for us Filipinos. Many of my country men suffered from cold, hunger, losing homes and the worst, losing their loved ones.
I could still recall…
Friday night when the rain was still going on…Together with my friend, Tata before going home, we headed to the SM Supermarket Makati to buy groceries. We didn’t even had intention to buy them for the preparation because of the coming typhoon “Ondoy”. We bought some rice cakes, loaf bread, sandwich spread, canned goods, juices, etc. The rain didn’t stop that night that whole day and Tata decided to sleep in our apartment since she lives in Cavite, a more than an hour of travel from Makati City.
I could still remember playing and walking in the rain that night.
However, without any idea, the next day went tragical.
I was awaken by the yell of my neighbor saying that Pochi (my dog) will be dead soon by drowning because the water outside is giving sign that it could get higher. The rain had not stopped since last night!
As I looked out through the window, I saw the water are on the knee level. I rush outside to keep my dog safe and brought him to my room.
With just a blink of an eye, the water was getting higher. It was already flooding!
Me, tata and Pochi stayed upstairs while my cousins were busy bringing our stuffs up to keep them safe. Our appliances such as refrigerator, TV, rice cooker, gas range, stereo, etc were kept safe after all.
The rain didn’t stop until 5pm. I took a moment looking downstairs and damn the flood inside our house was waist level. It was also dirty and color was so dark brown.
We didn’t even had to cook to meals because everything went wet.
But because of our groceries, we survived by bread.
We didn’t had our electricity the whole day. So our cellphones went bat empty. Everyone, our family in the Province were all worried, texting and calling us if we’re alright. Thank God we are alright!
I was saddened to see the next day how our country men suffered.
It was indeed a tragic event. Let’s just hope and pray that something like this won’t happen again. God is with us no matter what…I know and I believe.
Here are the photos taken during the flood…
