Do you ever wonder why most men die before us women? Here’s why:

In humans and many other animals, males age faster and die earlier than females.

New research suggests this might happen because of intense competition over sex.

Scientists compared monogamous species with polygynous species, in which each male mates with many females. Males in monogamous species, such as the barnacle goose or the dwarf mongoose, naturally compete less over females than ones in polygynous species, such as the red-winged blackbird or the savannah baboon.

After investigating about 20 different vertebrate species, researchers Tim Clutton-Brock and Kavita Isvaran at the University of Cambridge in England found the more polygynous a species was, the more likely their males were to age faster and die earlier than females.

The researchers explained that as competition among males for sex grows more intense, each male on average has less time to breed. As such, there is no strong incentive to evolve longevity among males in such species.

Since men age faster and die earlier than women, these findings suggest that “at the time when current human physiology evolved, perhaps around the late Stone Age, polygynous breeding was the norm,” Clutton-Brock told LiveScience. “Of course, this doesn’t provide any justification for polygyny or promiscuity now for males.”

Clutton-Brock and Isvaran detailed their findings online Oct. 17 in the journal Proceedings of the Royal Society B.

I do notice this one in our family. My Granda died first than my Gradma, my Uncle died few years ago due to Kidney disease and some for most of my relatives men do die first too.

They say, money is the root of all evil. But I keep on wondering why?

Money is important in us anyway. We are working so hard for to receive salary to have money. I’ve been hearing people saying. “It’s so hard to earn money!” or “I need to work overtime.”, etc. So I asked my friends and colleagues this question: Why Money is Important?

Here’s their thoughts:

Paul: With money you can do anything.

Amy: Money makes the world go round.

Merben: Because it is necessary in our society now.

Rei: To sustain ones self.

Porsi: Because almost everything you want has to be bought.

Joy: It allows us to buy the material things that we needed most.

Chad: “Money doesn’t make the world go ’round but I can certainly go around the world with it! Money can’t buy happiness but it can enhance it; money certainly cannot buy life but can extend it. However we look at it, money is important because it is part of our lives, we work for it in order to live. “Money” takes many forms, it may be a coin, a bill, a nugget of an earthly metal, blood or life. Any form that can be exchanged for something you want. I may sound a bit materialistic. Are you enjoying what you’re reading now? I wonder… how much does your computer cost? yeah, my point exactly! ;)

Thank you guys for sharing! :D

Well, for me, yes, it is true that money is something that we need to posses to buy what we want. Because it’s a fact that almost all of the material things are not for free. But the real thing for me is this… money isn’t everything, but happiness. :D

How about you? Any thoughts? :)

Yesterday (October 7, 2007) was a very exciting day. That day was a very memorable and victorious, as usual, to us Filipinos when Manny Pacquiao, a Filipino, won over Mexican pride Marco Antonio Barrera on fight “Will to Win” last October 6, 2007 in Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas. I myself, was one of the millions of Filipinos who watched the said fight. Because the fight was not broadcast live, I grabbed my mp3 player and tuned in to the live coverage of the said Pacquiao-Barrera II fight. Though many expected that Pacquiao will win Barrera my knock out, but still winning it till the last round was a great fight.

Both fighters/boxer did their best. Only that Pacquiao punched and scored more than Barrera. Two of the judges Jerry Roth and Glenn Trowbridge scored 118-109 and Tom Schreck 115-112 which made Pacquiao won a unanimous decision.

It was such a great fight indeed. Manny deserves a warm welcome when he will arrive home in his country, the Philippines. We are so proud of you Manny! :)

100_0656.JPGI am happy today! :D My ever loving adopted “son” hehe, I mean dog, Pochi received kudos and praises from my brothers, aunts and mother. Wonder why? Here’s the story:

This morning while leaving the office by 7 AM, I received a text message from my brother that an intruder got inside of compound. I replied to him and convinced him if it’s true or not, since he’s fun of making jokes on me sometimes, he said “yes”. I was thrilled and scared. When I got home, I then asked my Aunt if that’s really true and she said yes (my brother tells the truth! Hehe). Anyway, back to the story, my mother told me that it happened around 4:45 to 5 in the morning. She was doing the laundry just outside our house and was disturbed by Pochi’s because he kept on barking so loud and continuously. Since Pochi does that all the time when he sees a cat, my mother thought that it was really just a cat. So she came to Pochi and told him to stop and gave him food (thinking that maybe he was just hungry). Lately, when my cousins woke up, she noticed that the rubber shoes, flip flops and scandals that are placed outside their house were gone! Thinking that they are just somewhere, she didn’t mind. Not until, they heard our neighbor telling that there is an intruder early this morning who tried to steal their bonsai plant and even ran after that stranger guy but didn’t stopped him. There, they saw my sandals and flip flops near the street and suspected that they belong to my cousins. Though he indeed managed to steal 3 pairs of flops.

Even though, he didn’t get any high priced things and only got flip flops, but still, I’m so thankful that he didn’t hurt anyone, especially my mother. Hope he’ll never come back in our Barangay and in our territory!

So how did Pochi got those praises? Even if he didn’t catch the intruder or bite him (since he’s inside his dog house), but the way he barks so loud that very morning was his mean of saying “hey there is somebody inside our compound!” If he could only said that and if only my mother understands what he’s barking, then surely, they captured that intruder. But sadly, nobody understands him, cause, yes, he is just a dog, that only barks. But, the very good thing there is, we are now alert. My mother said, that when Pochi starts barking so early in the morning, they must consider that it’s not just because of cats, not because he’s hungry, but because, there is “stranger” entering our territory!

Thank you baby Pochi! You are such a brilliant dog and I am so proud of you! I love you! :)
